4Minute, a five, all-girl group
from Cube Entertainment, being the so-called "sisters" of BEAST, was
also first introduced by the company on May 2009 knowing that one of its
members was the former maknae of Wonder Girls, Kim Hyunah. Until June
12 each of the rest of the members were revealed through a silhouette
teaser. The girls promoted "Hot Issue" for the rest of June until early
August wherein they released their very first extended play, "For
Muzik." Under the mini album, they promoted "Muzik" and won the MNet
Award. Continuously building their fierce but chic concepts, they
promoted single, "What A Girl Wants" under the same single album.
However, the group is also one of the many with which a song was
banned. In the same month, they were forced to stop promotions of "Won't
Give (안줄래)" since its lyrics was though of sexually explicit.
They continued to soar as they
toured in Asia and had their first sold-out solo concert in Japan.
Alongside this success, Hyuna recorded a successful solo debut with
BEAST Junhyung and was included in their repackaged album released in
Taiwan in 2010. Furthermore, Amerie, an American singer, was also
captivated by the group that they released a song, "Heard 'Em All." In
2010, they made their come back with "HuH" under second mini album "HuH
(Hit Ur Heart)." Following that, they released "I My Me Mine" which
became their second Japanese single next to "Muzik." Their first
Japanese album, "Diamond," peaked during debut at number 18 on the
Oricon Daily Album charts.
4Minute continued promotions in
Japan with their, "WHY" MV on February 2011 and the single itself was
released one month after on March 9, 2011. They did not stop with just
single promotions but they also modeled during Yumi Katsura's "2011
Paris Grand Collection Tokyo fashion Show" in Tokyo.
Before having made official
their comeback, each members starred in each of their teasers with the
title "Steal 20." Then in March 29, 2011, their single "Heart to Heart"
was revealed while the MV had Jungshin of CN Blue in it.
The first album, "4MINUTES
LEFT," was released in April 5, 2011 being "Mirror, Mirror" as their
first promotional song for it. Although it was successful, the song's
choreography did not manage to escape critics' conservative judgement
that it should be changed for them to continue to performing the song.
Their rise to fame
internationally, as it may seem, is that they were able to takeover
Britney Spears' "Till The World End" in Europe. Thelma Aoyama also
collaborated with 4Minute with "WITHOUT U" which reached number 1 for a
minimum number of time.
They were also able to garner
numerous awards. Some of which are: 16th Korea Entertainment Arts
Awards: Newcomer Award, 4th Mnet 20's Choice Awards: Favorite Style Girl
Group for Dance, Style, and Body and 2nd Billboard JAPAN Music Awards
2010: Korea Billboard Special Award.
